This game was played as a friendly on Friday 3rd October. Black missed the chance to force mate against any defence for white and in the end lost when white queened and mopped up the remaining black troops. What should Black have played instead?

Game Analysis

This is a game from a recent Worcester and District Chess League match, Worcester City versus Kidderminster in Division 1. Watch how white slowly develops a spacial advantage leading black into a costly mistake. Whilst Black does carry on for a while, the unconnected rook pose a problem that never quite gets sold.

White: Andrew Moore (119) Black: John Gittus (120)

d4 h6, c4 g5, Nc3 Bg7, e4 c5, Nge2 Qa5, Bd2 p*p, Nd5 Qd8 (Possible Qc5, b4, Q*c4, Rc1 Q*e4 and with compensation for N+ and winning the rook), Qa4 Nc6, c5 Nf6 (Removing the complete protection on d4), N*d4 N*e4?, N*N d*N, Ba5 (~What continuation would have resolved black difficulty? E-mail answers to info@wjca.org.uk~) Q*N??, Rd1!!
